Elijah, Lizzie & Rachel - Halloween 2009
Pocahontas Halloween Costume

My mother called me three weeks before Halloween '09 and notified me that my little niece Rachel (above) was dying to be Pocahontas.  After much debate, we decided to used the Eagles View Girls Plains Indian Cloth Dress Pattern (with the alternate sleeve design) to make the dress from as it is a simple pattern and goes together quickly.  Since this was my first time sewing with ultra-suede, I didn't know just how slippery the material gets once under the needle.  We ended up having to glue the ribbons down with fabric glue first and then stitch them down.  Unfortunately you can see the glue through the ribbons, but I'm hoping that will go away once it is washed.  We stuck to the pattern except that we did not need to include the neck lining as the ultra-suede does not fray.  My mother (Bonnie), close friend (Sue) and I were able to get the whole thing cut and sewn within a couple of hours.
