Hat Stand

Since I will be selling more hats this year at Prairie, I need some hat stands.  Well, when I went to price them out, OUCH!  They averaged from $15 to $35 a piece.  Then I realized I could make them myself for far less.  I made a trip to Hobby Lobby and bought 9" tall wooden candlesticks for $3.47 a piece, 4" round discs for 2/$0.99, and 6 ¾" round discs for $1.47 a piece.  In total they ended up costing about $6 a piece to fabricate, allowing me to make 4 of them for the same cost as one of the ones I found online.  If you want to make them for yourself you are going to need to remove the screw from the bottom of the candlestick, drill and countersink holes in the center of the large and small discs, and drill deeper holes in the center of the top and bottom of the candlestick. I used 2 ½" drywall screws which worked perfectly.  Although the one pictured is stained, I still need to apply the varnish.
