Watteau Inspired by some the
hats designed for the movie The Dutchess , I recently decided
to turn my 13" low crow straw hat from
Bradley Company of the Fox
into a watteau. After adding to my ostrich feather collection
by a trip to Hobby Lobby's floral dept,
I started digging through my collection of trims to see what might
be suitable. In preparation for making my silk sacque back
gown (still in the works) I bought some gold colored velvet trim at
JoAnn Fabrics. Since I wanted to make sure the hat would
eventually match the gown I started from there and added the rest.
I had found the pale pink ribbon at Hobby Lobby and instantly fell
in love. Then I went looking for flowers, which was not easy
since I had a particular look in mind, but I found these at JoAnn's
as well. Finally came the lace trim. I was hesitant to
use the kind I had on hand since I had purchased it years ago for
another project that I still haven't started and really wanted use
the backside of it. Since I couldn't find anything with the
same look in the extensive collection of lace trims at JoAnn's, I
decided to go with it and hope I find something to replace it when I
finally get to that other project. Side note, I did not glue
anything down on this hat in case I want to remake it in the future
(I used all needle and thread).
