Regency Apron - Sense & Sensibility Inspired

I have always loved the aprons Emma Thompson wore in the 1995 adaptation of Jane's Sense and Sensibility so I thought I'd try one for myself.  Trust me when I say that, although they are easy to make, it wasn't as easy as I thought it was going to be to get it to look like the ones from the film.  The pattern I used was based on the instructions from Across the Ages.  The first one I made I used a 36' muslin but with a much fuller skirt than the one pictured and the straps were a bit too short.  Even after washing, drying and ironing, the material was still too stiff and the skirt would not hang right.  Luckily I had this 45' cream colored broadcloth in my stockpile.  I used the selvage edge as the outside edges of the skirt, thus eliminating the need to finish those and saving myself some time.  I was extremely pleased with the results and will probably make another one before too long.  I still haven't put any closures on this one but I think I'm going to place the buttons and button holes on the inside so they can be easily moved down the line.  The last photo shows me wearing it, completed, at HBE 2009.
